The PY 26 is a nice looking sailboat with an interesting history. It was built in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia, until 1977, when production was taken over by the AMF Corporation of Connecticut. In the early 1980s, Tanzer obtained the molds for this boat and manufactured and marketed it as the Tanzer 27. Although the PY26 and Tanzer 27 have a similar appearance, there are some notable differences, including a deck stepped mast and a slightly different cabin layout with the Tanzer. The PY 26 had a keel stepped mast and a longer settee on the starboard side.

The Paceship PY26 has to be described as a big 26 footer. Many manufacturers would have marketed this boat as a 27 footer, as did Tanzer. And with a displacement of 6000 pounds, this boat is reaching the upper limits of what can be realistically pushed around with an outboard motor. The PY was available with an optional inboard engine.
