The Sparkman and Stephens designed Northern 29 represents a category of older designs which were built in the late 1960s and early 1970s (the Hughes 29 is another example). Generally the beam of these boats is not quite as wide as designs which appeared a decade later, and in the case of the Northern 29, it also has a fairly pointed bow and narrow aft sections. Nevertheless, it is a good looking boat with nice proportions and a sensible interior layout. Because of their age, these boats tend to come on the market for less than newer models of the equivalent size.
